COURSE CATALOG AND DESCRIPTIONS
DA 100 Online-Introduction to Dental Assisting (5.25 Clock Hours)
Students are introduced to the Ethical and Legal Issues of the Dental Practice Act and working with the dental health team. The responsibilities of the team members including the dentist, hygienist, the front office staff and the back office personnel. The importance of infection control for Dental Assisting and the importance of sterilization surface dysfunction and treatment room preparation. Instrument processing and delivering dental care and instrument transfer techniques. (Prerequisite -None).
DA 101 Lab -Dental Chair and Infection Control PPE (5.25 Clock Hours)
Students will tour the facility, be able to place the team members, dentist, hygienist, front and back office staff and patient wait areas; as well as patient files and computer locations and systems. Students review the importance of Infection Control and transferring tools to the dentist with hands on training featuring infection control during the process. Students tour the exam rooms and experience performing the hands on sanitation of each patient area; including sanitizing chairs, furniture, x ray machines and more. . (Prerequisite -None)
DA 200 Online-Analyzing the Human Dentition (5.25 Clock Hours)
Student analyze the origin of the Human Dentition and the formation in the human which includes the tissues that surround and support the teeth. The importance of the complete dental examination is emphasized and oral pathology is explained at length which leads into dental anatomy and physiology. Students read about lab impression materials and how that are used. An introduction to hand dental charting is presented and Alginate impressions are defined. . (Prerequisite -None)
DA 201 Lab-Chairside Technique (5.25 Clock Hours)
Students will review tissues that surround the teeth by use of a personal dental mannequin that precedes the actual dental examination. The instructor demonstrates the dental examination on the mannequin and explains oral pathology and anatomy physiology involved in the process. This is an introduction to the lab impression material and an brief introduction of the dental charting. Students perform dental charting without the use of a computer. . (Prerequisite -None)
DA 300 Online-Radiology and Safety in Radiology (5.25 Clock Hours)
Students learn the effects of radiology on the patient as well as on the professional and the wavelength of hard radiation including how to increase the film quality and decrease exposure. Students will understand the X-ray tube and at the speed of travel x rays have. Students will understand the dark and black radiograph in an image. Students will understand exposure time for digital images and the units measured. In looking at the history of radiology, students will recognize the different sizes of dental film commonly used today. In addition, the material used to prevent the transmission of infective microorganisms is discussed. Familiar terms used to describe procedures that prevent infection of tissues are highlighted. . DA 301 Lab-Dental Radiology Basics (5.25 Clock Hours)
In this hands on lab class students will tour the radiology lab in the dental office and view the various types of film used in the past as well as in the present. Students will have the opportunity to examine various real x-ray film and discuss the outcome of the x-ray. Students will be given a demonstration of an x-ray on a live patient and discuss at length the procedure and outcomes. The instructor will highlight safety procedures when using the machines. Students will view and understand two types of x-ray machines and learn which one to use in the correct situation. Students will learn to properly position the film in the patient’s mouth.
Students will view x-ray results on the computer and discuss how the dentist proceeds in each situation. . (Prerequisite -None)
DA 400 Online-Pain and Anxiety Management (5.25 Clock Hours)
In this section, students learn about availability of restorative dentistry and the pain and anxiety management of the patient including, but not limited to prosthodontics and pediatric dentistry. Product use such as those used to improve retention between tooth structure and composite restoration is discussed at length. Various procedures are discussed for use on a primary tooth once decay has allowed an invasion into the pulpal chamber. The use and overuse of Nitrous Oxide is outlined for the student. Various dental cement products are explored. . (Prerequisite -None)
DA 401 Lab-Pain and Anxiety Management (5.25 Clock Hours)
In this lab students are exposed to real world products for tooth repair such as cement, sealants and their use. Using the mannequins, students emulate use of sealants on the patient. The entire impression procedure is presented and students have an opportunity to prepare a wax impression of their own mouth in this exciting lab. Students learn the process of wax impressions to delivery of the product in a real life lab including bite registration and adjustment. Students learn the filing system of the impressions and delivery methods of the final product from a lab. . (Prerequisite -None)
DA 500 Online-Fixed Prosthodontics and Crowns (5.25 Clock Hours)
Students study the various laboratory procedures for Orthodontics and Endodontics and how different dental offices handle the procedures. For example a pre-impression can be taken by the dental assistant prior to the tooth preparation so that the lab has a copy or the pre-impression can be taken by a hygienist in the office. Specific instruments such as the endodontic explorer can be used to facilitate the procedure. (Prerequisite -None)
DA 501 Lab- Fabricate a Temporary Crown and Evaluation (5.25 Clock Hours)
In this lab a demonstration is given to the class on fabrication of a temporary crown using real world materials. Students then fabricate the temporary crown using a pre impression done in a previous class. Students pass around and discuss various dentures and partials and learn the differences of the two products and the benefit to the patient of each. Students discuss and see an inlay and learn the support location of the bridge and how if affects the natural teeth in the mouth. Students learn to match the color of the material to the
Color of the natural teeth using sample shades. Students explore fixed prosthodontics for the patient and it’s advantages. Use of orthodontic separators is demonstrated and discussed in this lab. . (Prerequisite -None)
DA 600 Online-Anesthesia Topical and Local (5.25 Clock Hours)
Students learn the benefits of both topical and local anesthesia for the patient and when each can be used. The use of single dental needles is emphasized and a review on how to transfer the needle from the tray to the dentist’s hand is discussed. The storage of anesthetic cartridges in the dental office is explained. The formation of Biofilm in the mouth is outlined for the student. The warning of using Nitrous Oxide for pain relief and anxiety is reviewed. . (Prerequisite -None)
DA 601 Lab- Anesthesia and Topical Practical Use (5.25 Clock Hours)
Discussion and demonstration of various anesthesia methods are available in this lab class in a real life dental office. Students learn to position patients properly in the dental chair for preparation of anesthesia to minimize the traumatic needle prick. Various anesthesia types that can cause loss of sensation confined to a localized area of the body are discussed at length. The opportunity to cause less bleeding is explored and explained. Areas of the mouth for delivery are discovered. Teeth that benefit from sealant placement are uncovered and the type of impressions used in the fabrication of the bleaching trays is explained. Scaling and root planning is recommended for certain patient needs. Nitrous oxide sedation gas cylinders colors are discussed and shown to students. . (Prerequisite -None)
DA 700 Online- Oral Surgery and Medical Emergencies (5.25 Clock Hours)
Medical terms for tools and abbreviations used in the practice are explored in this chapter. Students view photos of tools and their use. Control of immediate postoperative bleeding is outlined and control of allergic reaction during surgery is explained. Students learn of the anesthetic agent that causes the change in blood vessels during surgery. The infection of pus found in the apex and the dry socket is explained. Students learn of the healing time after a tooth extraction and how to protect the wound. Students learn which medical condition that a dentist should be alerted to before selecting an anesthetic.
DA 701 Lab- Oral Surgery and Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office (5.25 Clock Hours)
The understanding and use of medical tools during a surgery is emphasized in this lab. Students learn the name and use of tools used and how to identify them and set them up on a tray. The location of blood vessels on various age groups is discussed as they relate to the surgery. Students view various stages of recovery photos of patients and various situations. Students learn how to handle an emergency-who on the team does what and when. Students learn how to advise patients in the after care of a tooth surgery and what to expect.

DA 800 Online-Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Procedure and Review (5.25 Clock Hours)
Students view the online CPR class and review the materials learned over the past 7 weeks. A rigorous chapter review covers material and where to locate more specific subject matter. Students are offered a sample online final exam to assist them in the actual test. . (Prerequisite -None)
DA 801 Lab-The Final Examination and the Job Search Component (5.25 Clock Hours)
Students take the final written examination and the final hands on examination. Once completed the student and instructor decide where the student will complete the 50 hour externship in order to earn the certification and be placed in a dental office. . (Prerequisite -completion of DA 100 through 801 and externship) Success Schools Florida LLC does not guarantee employment of the graduates.
Student Evaluation
Classes are numbered individually and clock hours awarded for each class shown. Students use their own computers to access Zoom classes that are asynchronous Monday thru Thursday and Synchronous meeting with an instructor on Friday and Saturday in our dental lab. Students must earn a 75% on written and hands on tests. Failure to obtain a 75% will result in student successfully retaking the test. Academic Progress is defined when a student passes each written and practical test. Upon completion of the 50 Hour Externship the student is awarded the Diploma.
